Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology provides a British solution to a global energy challenge. Positioned to lead globally in SMRs, we are building the UK’s premier green export capability and shaping the future of safe, sustainable nuclear energy.

The Team

The Power Station Integration team ensures the coherent, safe and optimised design of the entire SMR plant. We work across engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions, embedding safety, technical rigour and regulatory compliance into every aspect of the power station’s design and operation.

We are looking for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to lead the development of fire safety strategies across the SMR power station design. This role influences plant architecture, supports design integration, and ensures our fire protection approach is robust, compliant and aligned with regulatory expectations.

Key Deliverables

We’ll need you to:

  • Develop and implement fire protection strategies across nuclear site design.

  • Provide technical leadership, coaching and guidance within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Define and manage fire safety requirements across the full design lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with Safety Case, Systems Engineering, Layout, C&I, Civil/Structural and Mechanical teams to deliver integrated, coherent solutions.

This is a highly visible, technical leadership role where you’ll bring first‑class communication, analytical and safety‑focused engineering skills to influence one of the world’s most advanced clean‑energy designs.

Essential Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering discipline.

  • Experience in fire protection, fire safety engineering or fire system development.

  • Ability to manage engineering deliverables through full lifecycle stages.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Understanding of fire codes, standards and regulatory expectations.

  • We’ll ask about your experience influencing multidisciplinary teams and integrating safety into large, complex designs.

Location

Hybrid working, with regular attendance at our Manchester, Derby or Warrington offices depending on project requirements.

What’s in it for you?

  • Salary £50,650–£66,500 DOE,

  • 12.5% bonus

  • £2,200 benefits allowance

  • 12% employer pension, 28 days leave, BUPA medical cover, life assurance and a £250 home‑office allowance — all within a dynamic, forward‑thinking engineering organisation.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be joining a forward-thinking organisation that values transparency, fairness, and innovation. We offer:

•    A flexible, inclusive, and supportive working environment.
•    Opportunities for career growth in a rapidly scaling business.
•    A culture that values diversity, innovation, and continuous learning.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds. Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Also, if you are considering a career move or a sector-jump, please get in touch – we welcome applications from people with transferable skills.

Our Application Process

Due to the safety regulations within the nuclear industry, applicants will be required to participate in additional screening. These are:

•    Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
•    Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
•    Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check
