Passive Fire Surveyor – Fire Doors, Fire Stopping & Compartmentation (Self-Employed)
Location: Nationwide (Cornwall, Edinburgh & Kent – Travel Required)
Day Rate: £270 – £300 Per Day + Expenses Covered

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced self-employed Passive Fire Surveyor to secure consistent, well-paid survey work with a contractor offering an initial contract of approximately six weeks starting 19th October, with the genuine intention of providing ongoing, regular work across the UK for the right candidate.

Accommodation is provided, expenses are covered and the day rate is competitive — making this a strong opportunity for a surveyor who is comfortable travelling and wants the security of a contractor who can keep them busy long term.

The Role

As Passive Fire Surveyor, you will carry out compartmentation surveys, fire stopping surveys and fire door surveys across a variety of occupied environments including care homes, HMOs, high-rise residential and social housing. You will be required to work independently across multiple locations including Cornwall, Edinburgh and Kent, managing your own workload and producing accurate, detailed survey records throughout.

Both fire door and fire stopping knowledge are essential for this role — candidates must be competent and confident across both disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

* Carry out detailed compartmentation surveys including compartmentation lines, fire stopping and associated passive fire systems

* Conduct thorough fire door surveys including full compliance checks, gap tolerances, ironmongery, intumescent seals and signage

* Survey fire stopping works including penetration seals, cavity barriers and compartmentation breaches

* Work independently across care homes, HMOs, high-rise residential and social housing environments

* Record all survey findings accurately using digital reporting tools with photographic evidence throughout

* Identify defects and non-compliance issues in line with current regulations and passive fire standards

* Maintain a professional and respectful approach when working within occupied and sensitive environments

* Travel between locations across the UK as directed — accommodation and expenses fully covered

What We're Looking For

* Proven experience carrying out passive fire surveys covering both fire doors and fire stopping — both disciplines essential

* Strong technical knowledge of compartmentation lines, fire stopping systems and fire door compliance standards

* Experience working within care homes, HMOs, high-rise residential or social housing environments — essential

* Ability to work independently and manage own workload across multiple locations

* Comfortable with UK-wide travel and staying away from home — essential

* Experience using digital survey and reporting tools — essential

* FDIS or equivalent fire door inspection qualification — desirable

* Knowledge of FIRAS, BM TRADA or IFC standards — desirable

* CSCS Card — desirable

* Full UK Driving Licence — required
