Firefighter

Job Purpose

The Firefighter provides Category II Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS), rescue and first-aid cover in line with CAA, ICAO and Company requirements. As part of a multi-skilled, shift-based team operating six days a week, the role also supports passenger and baggage handling, aircraft turnarounds, customer service, facilities upkeep and the safe, professional operation of Penzance Heliport.

Key Responsibilities

Rescue & Fire Fighting Services

• Maintain Category II RFFS readiness throughout operating hours and respond to aircraft incidents, fires, fuel spills and rescues.


• Operate, inspect and maintain firefighting vehicles, rescue equipment, emergency systems and facilities.


• Complete required training, exercises and competency assessments, maintaining the necessary fitness standards.


• Support emergency planning, maintain accurate operational records and comply with CAA, ICAO, health and safety and environmental requirements.

Duty Crew Operations

• Check in passengers, verify travel documents and maintain accurate manifests and operational records.


• Deliver safety briefings, assist passengers as needed and manage safe movement between the terminal and aircraft.


• Provide professional customer service, answering enquiries and resolving issues where possible.


• Receive, weigh, transport, load and unload baggage in line with safety, security and operational procedures.


• Support safe, timely aircraft turnarounds and report baggage damage, hazards or operational concerns.

Safety, Security & Compliance

• Promote a strong safety culture, inspect operational areas, identify hazards and report concerns promptly.


• Support incident investigations and safety reporting.

Equipment & Facility Management

• Inspect operational and firefighting equipment, ensuring it remains serviceable and available.

Grounds Maintenance & Site Presentation

• Help keep public and operational areas clean, safe and presentable, including seasonal site maintenance.


• Assist in the management and operation of heliport parking facilities.

Training & Development

• Complete mandatory and recurrent training, exercises and assessments, maintaining operational competence and knowledge of Company procedures.

Teamwork & Customer Service

• Work collaboratively across the heliport, supporting operational demand and a positive, customer-focused culture.

What we are looking for:

• You will live within commuting distance of Penzance Heliport 


• A full UK driving licence


• Experience in a safety-critical, customer-facing operational team


• Clear communication, strong teamwork and a professional approach


• The ability to remain calm under pressure and undertake firefighting and manual-handling duties


• Willingness and ability to achieve and maintain CAT II RFFS competence and the required medical and fitness standards

Fire and rescue, aviation, airport or heliport experience is desirable, as are current CAT II, First Aid at Work or Fire Service qualifications.
