Purpose of the Role

As Catering Assistant you will:

• Assist in the service of food and beverages to a range of customers along with basic food preparation duties. In addition undertake general cleaning duties within the catering department

 

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

 

As Catering Assistant, you will:

• Set up of all front of house food areas prior to service of hospitality requirements
• Collect all crockery from Hospitality along with condiments required and transport to destination of booking
• Operate specified beverage units, dispense beverage to relevant flask, collect all food items and transport either by trolley or catering van to designated delivery point
• Set up refreshment tables in style directed by Supervisor and ensure relevant dietary signage and information is left with each buffet
• At designated times, clear all hospitality from buildings across campus and transport all crockery and waste to Canham Turner
• Enter usage figures on daily sheets to enable accuracy of billing for each booking
• Liaise with Supervisor or Sales and Events Assistant to discuss any anomalies with bookings.
• At request of Hospitality Supervisor or Hospitality and Banqueting Team Leader, provide a lunch time service in the Bronte Brasserie.
• At the request of the Hospitality and Banqueting Team Leader, provide service at internal/external conferences and events
• Provide a drinks service either bespoke to customer requirements or bar service
• Operate the till and take cash and issue change or payment by card in order that customers can settle their bill accurately and timorously
• Undertake cleaning duties to include general cleaning of front of house areas and all dining areas, as well as cleaning kitchen surfaces including fridges and freezer units, as part of legal requirement to provide a clean and hygienically safe catering environment
• Close down hospitality area ensuring preparations complete for the following day.
• Cashing up tills and securing takings
• Provide information to the Hospitality Supervisor regarding monitoring procedures and processes.
• Help to ensure that stock levels are maintained as required to undertake your duties and operate the unit effectively.
• Adhere to the University’s Health and Safety and other associated policies, maximising the safety and protection of staff and users.
• Assist the Hospitality Supervisor in maintaining efficient working practices across areas of operation.
• Where appropriate report complaints received from students, visitors, staff and the public regarding the services offered to enable relevant action to be taken.
