Job Description - Football Coach (Play Like a Girl)

Organisation Overview:


We are Girls United, an organisation that stands for a world with a level playing field, on and off the pitch. We establish grassroots football clubs for girls in multiple locations and use football as a tool to empower individuals. Reports to:


London Programme Lead / Head Coach on site


Salary:


Lead Coach: £17.50 per hour


Assistant Coach: £13.50 per hour


Where & When:



  • Oasis St Martin’s Village (SW2). Tuesday Evenings 5.00pm - 6.00pm (During term time)

  • Streatham Vale Park (SW16). Thursday Evenings 5.00pm - 6.00pm (During term time)

  • Peckham Rye Park (SE22). Sunday Mornings 10.00am -11.00am (During term time) 



Job Description: 


The position of the Sessional Coach consists of delivering on our Play Like A Girl programme at any of the sessions listed above. This is not your typical type of football programme. Play Like A Girl prides itself on working with girls of any ability aged 5-14. We offer spaces for those who have never kicked a ball before, to those that play for teams and still want to enjoy the social benefits of sport. We have a bespoke syllabus that focuses on and has a real emphasis on developing life and social skills first. 


 


The position will include delivery of practical sessions, alongside supporting players and our current workforce. This position is ideal for someone who wants to work in the foundation phase of play and make a positive contribution to the community. Girls United pride ourselves on being able to offer pathways across our different programmes. As previously mentioned. Play Like A Girl is a place where we get girls of all abilities and levels of experience attending. But we put a real emphasis and focus on individual player development in confidence and football. 



Coach Expectations:



  • Lead Coaches: will be able to oversee & support assistant coaches who will be delivering parts or whole sessions. 

  • All Coaches: To be able to build rapport and trust with players, attendees and young people to ensure they continue to engage with Girls United. The aim will be to support our community to develop on and off the pitch through the power of football. 

  • All Coaches: To work collaboratively with other team members including but not exclusive to; those that volunteer, sessional staff and contracted staff within Girls United London.

  • All Coaches: To support in creating and maintaining a positive relationship with community groups and partner organisations (such as venues) to deliver these programmes. 

  • To support the wider team with developing the organisation with new ideas, new programmes and new opportunities of growth, experience and delivery. 

  • Lead Coaches will be responsible for bringing appropriate equipment as pre agreed with the Programme Lead. 



Essential and Desirable Qualities and Qualifications: 



  • Experiences - Someone who can lead delivering football or community sports programmes. Ideally, this programme experience would have been with young people (especially females). (D) 

  • Qualifications - FA Level 1 in Football Coaching (or working towards) including an in-date qualification for Safeguarding Children and First Aid in Football. (E for Lead and Assistant coaches) 

  • Communication - Someone who is confident to speak and build positive rapport with various people within the community. For example but not exclusive to players, parents. (E) 

  • Organisation skills - someone who is able to manage their time effectively and ensure they are punctual in attending sessions and other in-person activities. (E)

  2. A 20-30 minute phone interview with a member of Girls United Staff. 

  3. Practical interview which will consist of delivering on session. This will help us to assign your skillset to the most suitable coaching level within Girl United but also matching you to the most appropriate age groups.
