Excavator / Forestry Operator – Full-Time

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled, practical and motivated Excavator / Forestry Operator to join a team working across the Halesworth Estate.

This is a varied, hands-on role involving forestry, estate and land-management operations. The successful applicant will ideally have experience in ditching, drainage, tree and stump extraction using excavator grabs, forestry mulching, track construction and general estate works.

This is not a machine-only position. The successful applicant must be happy to get out of the cab and work hands-on alongside the wider team when required.

Key Responsibilities

* Ditching and drainage works

* Tree, root and stump extraction using excavator grabs

* Operating forestry mulching attachments

* Track construction, repairs and maintenance

* Woodland, forestry and general estate land-management tasks

* Working around trees, landscaped areas and sensitive parkland

* Carrying out hands-on work alongside other team members

* Assisting with wider estate projects

* Daily machine checks, greasing, routine servicing and basic fault finding

* Maintaining machinery and attachments to a high standard

* Working safely and efficiently to agreed targets

Wider Estate Responsibilities

* Assisting with major estate events and activities

* Event set-up and site preparation

* Moving equipment and materials

* Providing general hands-on support before, during and after events

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for someone who is:

* A competent and confident excavator operator

* Practical and mechanically minded

* Self-motivated and able to work independently

* Reliable and willing to take responsibility for their work

* Able to problem-solve and use their own initiative

* Happy to work on the ground as well as operate machinery

* Flexible and willing to support wider estate activities

* Comfortable carrying out basic servicing and mechanical maintenance

* Careful and respectful with machinery and equipment

* Safety conscious, with pride in the quality and finish of their work

Previous experience in forestry, agriculture, drainage, land management or estate work would be an advantage. However, attitude, willingness to learn and pride in workmanship are equally important.
