Job Description - Formulation Chemist

Job Description

We are proud to be assisting this sustainable textile start-up with their search for a Biomaterial Chemist. The company mission is to create the most beautiful, high-performing, and climate-responsible materials at scale for fashion and beyond. They are a fast-growing team based in Cambridge that develops disruptive novel bio-based materials. They help companies looking to incorporate more sustainable materials in their products, without compromising quality. Their material is made of collagen and is chemically comparable to real leather. They heavily invest in R&D and are backed by global venture investors to reach industrial-scale commercialisation.

Job Title : Biomaterial Chemist
Location : Cambridge, 5 days per week on-site
Salary : £35k-£45k (DOE & Negotiable)

Core Responsibilities:
- Assist in day-to-day formulation research, conduct green chemistry trials and investigation in formulations

via

different manufacturing methods.
- Maintaining accurate records of observations and calculations
- Support the R&D team for the daily routine materials testing and data analysis.
- Participate in finishing development of leather-like biomaterials.
- Assist in daily laboratory operational tasks.
- Conduct, analyse, and report

chemical/mechanical

performance of samples.
- Carry out and report for detailed work packages, ensuring good quality work with on time timely delivery.
- Ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards.

About You:

- A MSc/Bachelor degree in

chemistry/materials

chemistry with experience in the cosmetic industry is preferred.
- Attention to detail-able to follow precise details and observations.
- A good understanding of laboratory health and safety.
- Experience and knowledge in collagen-based soft materials

(film/matrix/sponge/hydrogel)

is a plus.
- Experience and knowledge in rheology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, experience in working in a team environment.
- The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK. (Company is a licenced sponsor for Skilled Worker Visa)
