Fragrance R&D at Unilever

Unilever is one of the world’s largest users of Fragrances and fragrance raw materials. Fragrances are a key driver of the technical performance and consumer acceptance of Unilever brands across Home Care, Beauty and Personal Cleansing categories. UL brands are trusted and used by 2.5 billion consumers every day with iconic brands like Persil, CIF, Comfort and Domestos.

Job Purpose:

This is an opportunity to play a critical operational role in supporting fragrance design and evaluation activities within Unilever Home Care Fragrance Team. This role ensures smooth execution of evaluations, by coordinating samples, data, logistics, and communication across Fragrance Houses, evaluators, and global partners. The position is foundational to enabling creative teams to operate efficiently, compliantly, and at pace.

Key Accountabilities
Evaluations & Project Support

  • Plan and execute fragrance tests for the fragrance evaluators and technical team
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, including new method development, is accurate, and aligned with internal standards and external requirements
  • Maintain high standards of safety in the Laboratory area, preparing and executing SOPs, Risk assessment.

Sample Coordination

  • Work directly with Fragrance Houses and Product Design teams to request, track, and manage application samples to support Fragrance Design Leaders (FDLs) across projects.
  • Maintain organised tracking systems for samples, submissions, and fragrance library to ensure visibility and traceability Communication & Network Support
  • Enable seamless communication across the global and regional network of evaluators
  • Act as a reliable point of contact to facilitate information flow, issue resolution, and day-to-day operational needs
  • Collaborate effectively across x teams to support evaluation timelines and project delivery


Key Requirements

  • Exposure to laboratory, evaluation, or product development environments.
  • Background in science, fragrance, or consumer products is an advantage. Strong interest in fragrance, evaluation, and product development required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with precision, structure, and reliability in operational roles.
  • High attention to detail with a mindset for scientific precision and accuracy.
  • Solid organisational, documentation, and tracking skills. Use of LIMS, Excel, Word, email essential.
  • Highly responsive and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, creative environment.
  • Self-motivated. Comfortable working independently while remaining strongly connected to the wider team.
  • Proactive, structured, and solution oriented in approach.
  • Clear and effective communicator across functions and geographies.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate across diverse stakeholders.
  • Confident engaging with both creative and technical partners.
