We are currently recruiting for an experienced and commercially minded Fresh Produce Sales Trader to join a well-established and growing fresh produce business based in the West Midlands.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in fresh produce, wholesale trading, food distribution, sales or a similar fast-paced commercial environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for buying and selling fresh produce, with a particular focus on fresh salads, while developing strong relationships with customers and suppliers. You will manage pricing, customer orders, stock availability and product quality while ensuring commercial targets and high levels of customer service are achieved.

The Role

As a Wholesale Fresh Produce Trader, you will work within a fast-moving commercial environment where market conditions, availability and pricing can change quickly.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Buying and selling fresh produce in line with customer demand and current market conditions
• Negotiating prices, quantities, delivery schedules and commercial terms
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing wholesale customers
• Identifying new sales opportunities and supporting continued business growth
• Taking and processing customer orders accurately and efficiently
• Monitoring stock levels, product availability, shelf life and quality
• Monitoring market prices and adjusting buying and selling prices accordingly
• Completing and supporting customer tenders
• Managing margins and working towards agreed sales and profitability targets
• Handling customer queries, complaints and product-related issues professionally
• Working closely with warehouse, logistics and delivery teams to ensure orders are fulfilled correctly and on time
• Minimising waste and effectively managing short shelf-life products
• Ensuring relevant food safety, quality and trading requirements are followed

About You

We are looking for a commercially driven individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is confident building relationships with both customers and suppliers.

Ideally, you will have:

• Minimum NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent
• Previous experience within fresh produce, wholesale trading, food distribution, FMCG or a similar commercial environment
• Strong sales and negotiation skills
• Good commercial awareness with an understanding of pricing, margins and profitability
• The ability to react quickly to changing market conditions
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• Confidence dealing with customers, suppliers and internal operational teams
• Good Microsoft 365 skills
• A proactive and commercially focused approach

Previous fresh produce experience would be highly advantageous, particularly within salads or other short shelf-life products.
