Do you have a background in behaviour support, SEMH, youth work, care, or alternative education settings?

Teaching Personnel is working alongside a specialist primary education provision in Merthyr Tydfil that supports pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support to succeed in education. We are seeking a committed and resilient Learning & Behaviour Mentor to join their team on a full-time basis.

This role would suit individuals who are passionate about helping vulnerable children overcome barriers to learning while building confidence, emotional resilience, and positive relationships.

The Opportunity

You'll work closely with primary-aged pupils who have been referred to a specialist setting due to behavioural, social, emotional, or attendance-related challenges.

No two days are the same. You'll play a vital role in helping children regulate their emotions, develop positive coping strategies, and engage positively in school life.

Key responsibilities include:

✅ Providing individual mentoring and targeted support sessions

✅ Supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties

✅ Building trusting relationships with children who have experienced challenges in education

✅ Encouraging engagement with classroom activities and learning tasks

✅ Supporting emotional regulation using positive behaviour approaches

✅ Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and pastoral teams

✅ Promoting a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment

✅ Recording progress and contributing to pupil support plans

Requirements

To be considered for this position you'll need:

Relevant experience supporting children or young people with additional needs
A valid Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
EWC Registration as a School Learning Support Worker (or willingness to register)
Two professional references covering the last two years

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
