Job Purpose

As an ESOL / Functional Skills English Tutor, you will deliver high-quality teaching and learning to adult learners, helping them improve their English language and literacy skills to support further education, employment, and personal development. You will create an inclusive learning environment that promotes learner achievement, progression, and engagement.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver ESOL and Functional Skills English programmes.
  
  
  


• Conduct learner interviews, initial assessments, and diagnostic assessments.
  
  
  


• Create engaging and inclusive learning environments.
  
  
  


• Develop learning resources and utilise digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  
  
  


• Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  
  
  


• Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
  
  
  


• Support learners through individual learning plans and progression opportunities.
  
  
  


• Work collaboratively with curriculum managers and support teams.
  
  
  


• Contribute to quality improvement activities and curriculum development.
  
  
  


• Participate in course reviews and learner achievement processes.
  
  
  


• Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and British Values.
  
  
  


• Support learners from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities.
  
  
  

Essential Experience Required

• Experience delivering ESOL and/or Functional Skills English.
  
  
  


• Experience teaching within Adult Education, Further Education, Community Learning, or Training environments.
  
  
  


• Experience carrying out learner assessments and reviews.
  
  
  


• Experience planning and delivering learner-centred lessons.
  
  
  


• Experience supporting learners with different abilities and learning needs.
  
  
  


• Strong understanding of differentiated learning approaches.
  
  
  


• Knowledge of safeguarding and Prevent requirements.
  
  
  


• Excellent communication, organisational, and digital skills.
  
  
  


• Experience maintaining learner records and monitoring progress.
  
  
  

Essential Qualifications Required

• Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  
  
  


• Relevant qualification in ESOL, English, Functional Skills, or a related subject area.
  
  
  


• Willingness to work towards a Level 5 Teaching Qualification if not already held.
  
  
  


• Right to Work in the UK.

• Working hours: 36 hours per week.
  
  
  


• Location: Lynton House, Ilford, Greater London.
  
  
  


• Standard DBS required.
