Job Title: Games Design Technician Location: Manchester Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Hours: 37 hours per week Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Games Design Technician to support the delivery of our Games Design curriculum. Working closely with academic staff and students, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Games Design department by maintaining equipment, supporting software use, and contributing to a creative and professional learning environment. Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to teaching staff and students during practical sessions and workshops.
Prepare and maintain classroom resources, equipment, and digital assets for lessons and student use.
Manage and maintain software installations and licenses related to game development (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk Maya/3ds Max).
Set up and support PCs, gaming hardware, VR headsets, and peripherals.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with hardware and software in a timely manner.
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and report any maintenance or replacement needs.
Ensure all equipment and systems are compliant with health and safety standards.
Support learners with technical aspects of their coursework and project work where appropriate.
Assist in the development and updating of teaching materials and online learning resources.
Participate in departmental meetings, open days, and promotional events as required.
Person Specification:Essential:
Relevant qualification in Games Design, ICT, Media, or a related technical discipline.
Strong working knowledge of game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
Experience with hardware setup and software troubleshooting.
Confident in supporting a range of creative software tools including Adobe Creative Suite, 3D modelling tools, and digital audio software.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
A proactive, solution-focused approach to supporting students and staff.
Desirable:
Previous experience in an educational or support technician role.
Experience working with VR/AR hardware and software.
Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle or Microsoft Teams).
Health and safety training or willingness to undertake appropriate training.
