Job Description - Gas and Plumbing Engineer

Role: Gas Safe Engineer and Plumber

Location: South Wales

Salary: £42,000 - £48,000 (DOE)

Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm (Full Time – Permanent)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Gas Safe registered engineer and plumber to join its internal team, delivering domestic refurbishment and insurance reinstatement projects throughout South Wales.

This is a varied, hands-on position covering plumbing and heating surveys, general plumbing repairs, fault diagnosis, first-fix and second-fix installations, boiler and central heating work, bathroom and kitchen plumbing, testing, commissioning, minor making-good and other reasonable multi-skilled duties.

Projects typically involve occupied and vacant residential properties requiring repair or reinstatement following fire, flood, escape of water or accidental damage. The successful candidate will work across the full project lifecycle, from initial inspection and diagnosis through to installation, certification and handover.

The role requires a competent engineer who can undertake gas work only within their current Gas Safe registration categories, while also completing high-quality plumbing and heating works in accordance with the relevant regulations, standards and manufacturers’ instructions.

The successful candidate will also assist the company with obtaining and maintaining Gas Safe business registration and the associated certification and compliance processes. They must therefore be willing and able to be listed as an engineer against the company’s registration, subject to Gas Safe Register requirements, and to support the company’s assessments, inspections, certification, record-keeping and compliance arrangements.

As the position involves regular interaction with homeowners and policyholders, excellent communication skills and a professional, considerate approach are essential.

General Plumbing and Multi-Skilled Duties

* Carry out general plumbing repairs and maintenance, including leak detection, defective valves and taps, toilet faults, wastes, traps and minor pipework alterations, together with draining down, isolation, refilling, venting and recommissioning of domestic water and heating systems

* Undertake associated multi-skilled duties where competent, including minor sealing, fixing, boxing-in preparation and making-good, leaving work areas safe, secure, tidy and ready for subsequent trades

* Measure work areas, identify suitable replacement components and prepare material requirements, supporting other trades with access, service isolation and coordinated reinstatement while recognising when specialist expertise, authorisation or certification is required

Testing, Certification and Handover

* Test, commission and certify completed installations within the engineer’s competence and current registration categories, ensuring all works are safe, compliant, fully operational and ready for handover

* Maintain accurate job records, photographs, test results, commissioning sheets, certificates and handover information, clearly demonstrating completed systems and controls to homeowners and policyholders

* Review approved scopes, identify required materials and components, and report any omissions, discrepancies or variations before additional work is undertaken

Gas Safe Certification, Business Registration and Compliance Responsibilities

* Support the company in obtaining and maintaining Gas Safe business registration, including providing competence evidence, supporting assessments and inspections, and being listed as an engineer where required and accepted by the Gas Safe Register
