Location: Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital, Clifton, Bristol

Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour

Hours: (25 hours per week) - 09:00am – 2:30pm, 40 hours per week, 5 out of 7 days (term time only)

About the Role

Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital (QEH) is a prestigious independent boys’ school in Clifton, Bristol, with a proud heritage dating back to 1586. We are currently seeking a reliable and organised General Assistant to join our busy & supportive catering team.

In this essential support role, you will assist with a variety of kitchen and service duties, including basic food preparation, keeping kitchen and service areas clean and tidy, and helping with the setup and delivery of meals. You’ll work closely with the catering team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of daily food service operations.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the kitchen team with basic food preparation and cooking tasks

  • Assist with setting up and serving meals to pupils and staff

  • Ensure kitchen, dining, and service areas are clean, tidy, and hygienic at all times

  • Wash up crockery, utensils, and kitchen equipment as required

  • Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and company procedures

  • Help with unpacking and storing deliveries

  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a friendly, helpful attitude

  • Support hospitality events as required (e.g. parent evenings, school functions)

  • Work as part of a team to ensure smooth, efficient service

  • Carry out other duties as reasonably requested by the Head Chef or Catering Manager

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience in a catering or cleaning environment (desirable but not essential)

  • Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices

  • Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate (can be provided during training)

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work efficiently and follow instructions

  • Reliable, punctual, and professional in appearance and attitude

  • Positive, can-do approach to work

  • Physically able to be on your feet for extended periods and carry out manual tasks

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a busy school environment
