General Manager

Location: Coventry
Salary: Excellent salary package + Bonus + Benefits
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm (42.5 hours/week)

Imperial is recruiting on behalf of a dynamic and rapidly expanding engineering firm based in Coventry. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and driven General Manager to take full operational responsibility and play a key role in delivering business transformation for one of the UK’s leading and multi-award-winning engineering companies.

This opportunity is ideal for a commercially astute leader with a hands-on approach, a passion for continuous improvement, and a proven ability to lead cultural and operational change within a fast-paced engineering environment.

As General Manager, you will be responsible for leading the business through its next phase of growth and evolution. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will have full accountability for day-to-day operations and strategic development, with a particular focus on change management, efficiency gains, and business development.

• Lead cultural and operational change initiatives to modernise and enhance business performance.

• Design and implement process improvements to increase productivity, reduce costs, and eliminate waste across departments.

• Drive cost reduction strategies while maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction.

• Take full responsibility for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities to fuel long-term growth.

• Oversee the delivery of operational KPIs and ensure alignment with wider business goals.

• Foster a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation.

• Develop and mentor a workforce of 100+ employees, managing recruitment, training, performance, and succession planning.

• Manage departmental budgets, ensuring all financial objectives are met with a focus on margin improvement and return on investment.

• Strengthen relationships with existing customers while actively engaging with new clients and markets to grow revenue streams.

• Significant experience in a senior leadership role within an engineering or manufacturing environment, ideally involving laser cutting, sheet metal, or fabrication.

• Demonstrable expertise in leading change management projects, including lean implementation, process re-engineering, and waste elimination.

• Proven ability to improve cost control and drive profitability through strategic operational leadership.

• Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and P&L management.

• A hands-on, motivational leader who leads by example and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
