Job Description

Mayo Clinic Healthcare is seeking a highly experienced General Practitioner to support our Executive Health services in London, at our clinic at 15 Portland Place.

Mayo Clinic Healthcare in London offers comprehensive Executive Health screening, private GP services and second opinion services with access to our world-leading consultants, advanced imaging and diagnostic suites and easy access to leading specialist cardiology and gastroenterology teams.

The General Practitioner(s) recruited into this role will be led by a consultant physician and support preventive care for corporate executives and self-funding patients, some of whom will be and or become a Mayo Clinic Healthcare patient in the context of general practice and family medicine services. The General Practitioner will provide clinical care in a team-based environment, working closely with nursing and other allied health professionals.

The patient population will be exclusively adult (18 years and above) and will include executive director level workers whose employers provide preventive health assessments annually as well as self-funding patients and general [medical/practice] patients. The General Practitioner will be focused on general diagnosis and preventive medicine, following evidence-based protocols, with support by our Mayo Clinic (US) expert medical colleagues as required. The General Practitioner will be responsible to direct and coordinate all care for their patients taking a personalised and tailored approach putting the needs of the patient first at all times. This may require actions such as review of investigation results in collaboration with the clinic team outside of direct working hours and when practicable shall be available after hours for any emergency situations arising relating to patients in their care. and ensure continuity between visits to the Clinic and with any external specialists where necessary.

Job Purpose:
The post-holder will be a member of the Clinic physician team and will work collaboratively to provide high-quality medical service provision for all MCH Patients.
The post-holder will also provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence for whom patients can approach for advice and support.
The post-holder will align with Mayo values at all times creating an environment that promotes and supports high standards of clinical and professional practice.
The post-holder will ensure that standards of patient care are always maintained in accordance with agreed operational policies and procedures.

Professional Practice:
To provide the highest standard of care to patients at all times.
To collaborate with medical professionals in the local medical community and with Mayo Clinic (International and USA) whenever appropriate in the best interest of the patient.
To provide the best health promotion and preventative health care advice to all patients.
To advise patients on the long-term management of conditions in line with national guidelines and pathways.
To keep up to date with medical developments, new drugs, treatments including complementary medicine.
To demonstrate the use of excellent communication skills to support patients and families in highly stressful situations both face to face and over the telephone.
To keep accurate records for each patient of all communication and clinical activity relevant to his/her treatment.
To assist in the setting of standards and auditing to maintain a consistent standard of medical practice ensuring this is evidence based.
To maintain a safe and acceptable environment for all patients, staff and visitors taking appropriate action when hazards are identified.
To ensure that all risks are identified and reported appropriately, and mechanisms are put in place to reduce the risk. Encourage staff to report all incidents that occur.
To be actively involved and engaged in practice and wider team meetings and forum to promote communication and development. playing an active role in multidisciplinary discussions around complex case management.
To ensure record keeping is accurate and legible at all times for each patient in line with MCH KPI’s.
The post holder will report to the medical director.

Communication and Service Development:
To demonstrate use of excellent communication skills to support patients and families.
To promote effective communication processes between all team members to enable good working practices.
To form collaborative relationships with peers in the UK and US sharing best practice and facilitating the care needs of patients.
To engage with third party organisations in support of business development, commercial and marketing objectives, working with the Clinic’s business development team.
To contribute to the promotion of the service to users.

Governance, Quality and Patient Experience:
To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of the company’s Quality Strategy and support systems to continually improve quality, safety and patient experience.
To uphold the individual responsibility for patient safety, clinical effectiveness, patient experience and risk management within the Clinic.
To undertake appropriate clinical audit in practice to identify clinical quality issues and markers and define processes to improve clinical outcomes and ensure the clinic delivers care in line with identified quality outcomes.
To support in the development and implementation as appropriate guidelines, policies and procedures.
To ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and requirements.
To manage conflict promptly and effectively, supporting and promoting effective working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team.
To participate in department review and audit of clinical procedures and protocols to enhance patient care.
To support practice development, research and clinical project work within the Clinic. Utilising the latest available evidence to shape and organise services to reflect needs of population.

Personal Development:
To exercise professional accountability at all times and to be aware of own development needs / limitations, actively seeking to address these and raise awareness in others.
To undertake appropriate training to meet personal and mandatory educational needs and practice development needs.
To contribute to the continuing development of professional medical practice within the Clinic.
To keep up to date with clinical practice issues relating to services offered within the Clinic.
To take responsibility for own personal and professional growth and for maintaining a record of professional development experiences in line with GMC processes.
To complete agreed competency frameworks and take active responsibility for having an annual appraisal with a relevant personal development plan that is actively reviewed.
To always act within the GMC scope of professional practice and code of professional conduct respecting patient safety and confidentiality.
