Job Description - General SEND Teacher

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Hartlepool to recruit an experienced or aspiring SEND Teacher for a nurture class. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on pupils who require a calm, consistent and relationship‑focused learning environment.

About the Role

You will take lead responsibility for a small nurture cohort, providing a safe, predictable and emotionally supportive classroom where pupils can develop confidence, self‑regulation and readiness to re‑engage with mainstream learning. Teaching will be highly personalised, balancing academic progress with emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver differentiated, inclusive lessons aligned with individual EHCPs and support plans
Create a nurturing learning environment that supports emotional regulation and positive behaviour
Deliver targeted social, emotional and communication interventions (e.g. turn‑taking, emotional literacy, routines)
Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils to promote trust and engagement
Monitor progress across academic, social and emotional outcomes and adapt provision accordingly
Engage positively with parents/carers, providing clear communication and support
Maintain accurate records, assessments and review documentation

Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching pupils with SEN, ideally within a nurture class or specialist provision (primary)
Confident in adapting the curriculum to meet individual learning profiles
Calm, patient and reflective approach to behaviour and emotional needs
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
