Job Description - Geotechnical Engineer

Engineering Geologist / Senior Engineering Geologist

Leeds | Office & Site-Based Role

Ready to get back to real engineering and work on projects that genuinely challenge you?

If you're an Engineering Geologist who enjoys being out on site, solving complex ground engineering problems and seeing your recommendations influence major infrastructure projects, this could be exactly the opportunity you've been looking for.

You'll join one of the UK's leading Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Consultancies, working on a diverse range of projects with a particular focus on the rail sector. From ground investigations and earthworks assessments to geotechnical design and risk management, you'll play a key role in delivering projects that keep critical infrastructure moving.

What's in it for you?

Work on a diverse portfolio of rail and infrastructure projects across the UK
A balance of office, site and client-facing work
Opportunity to develop technical expertise in geotechnical design and ground engineering
Greater project ownership and responsibility
Direct involvement in ground investigations and site activities
Mentoring and support towards Chartered status
Clear progression opportunities within a growing consultancy
Work alongside experienced Civil, Structural and Geotechnical specialists

The Role

As an Engineering Geologist / Senior Engineering Geologist, you'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, helping clients understand ground conditions, manage risk and develop safe, practical engineering solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

Producing high-quality geotechnical interpretative reports
Developing and interpreting ground models
Undertaking geotechnical assessments for earthworks, slopes and associated infrastructure
Carrying out Preliminary Risk Assessments and Mining Risk Assessments
Reviewing technical reports, drawings and calculations
Supervising ground investigations and site works
Supporting project and contract management activities
Managing programme, budget and quality requirements
Attending client meetings and technical discussions
Supporting business development and framework opportunities
Mentoring junior engineers and geologists
You'll have the opportunity to combine technical expertise, site experience and client interaction while working on projects that deliver tangible benefits to the UK's transport infrastructure.

About You

You'll likely be an Engineering Geologist or Geotechnical professional who enjoys technical problem solving and wants to continue developing their career within a consultancy environment.

Your experience may include:

Ground investigation planning, supervision and reporting
Geotechnical Interpretative Reports (GIRs)
Ground modelling and geotechnical assessments
Earthworks inspections and reporting
Mining Risk Assessments and Preliminary Risk Assessments
Geotechnical design and analysis
Rail, infrastructure or civil engineering projects
Site supervision and contractor management
You'll ideally hold a degree in Geology or a related discipline and may already be working towards Chartered status or recently achieved professional accreditation.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Many engineering geology roles focus heavily on reporting or site work. This position gives you the opportunity to develop both.

You'll gain exposure to technical design, project management, client engagement and multidisciplinary collaboration while working on some of the UK's most important infrastructure schemes. The variety of projects, strong technical team and commitment to professional development make this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to accelerate their career.

Interested?

Whether you're actively looking for a new role or simply open to hearing about opportunities within the geotechnical sector, I'd be happy to arrange a confidential conversation.
