Who we are:
Fuels & Low Carbon Technology (F&LCT) are a team of over 300 technologists, scientists and engineers who provide pioneering solutions to support bp’s Fuels, Refining, Bioenergy and Hydrogen businesses. We also support the Technology group through Innovation Management, Modelling, Digital Science and our academic research programs. The Refining and Advanced Fuels Technology (R&AFT) who form part of the F&LCT consists of over 120 people who work closely with business groups to assure the quality of our fuels along the whole of the Fuels Supply Chain - from our Refineries and 3rd party suppliers to our Customers and Products businesses. We also develop differentiated fuels products for retail customers and deploy these into global markets. The range of fuel products is evolving as part of the energy transition, with a growing number of bio-based fuel offers. The R&AFT team also run technical programs to understand and mitigate the risk of processing bio-based feedstocks in our refinery assets, to produce a variety of renewable fuels.
The opportunity:
We are delighted to present this opportunity of Global Fuels Quality Assurance Expert Technologist, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Global Aviation & Product Quality Assurance. The role holder will be responsible for supporting bp in preventing product quality incidents from the point of manufacture, across the supply chain and up to the customer; driving a quality assurance culture, thought leadership, conformance and learning; to provide a strong second line of defence. The role delivers the requirements of OMS 6.4 for product quality assurance through effective influence and partner management.
The role:
The Global Fuels Quality Assurance Expert technologist holds a critical position in safeguarding quality across bp’s Fuels and Aviation businesses. Responsibilities include championing integrated quality assurance through collaboration with the Integrated Quality Forum and relevant QA committees, maintaining compliance and due diligence via global and regional teams, and proactively being a great partner with diverse collaborators across the business. The expert drives thought leadership to identify and mitigate emerging risks, supports root-cause investigations and audits, and develops a robust quality culture. Oversight of independent assurance activities, coordination of quality initiatives across embedded teams, and dissemination of best practices are core duties, all delivered through effective stakeholder engagement and influence.
Accountabilities will include:
Delivering efficiency improvements in Quality Assurance processes while managing risk, partnering with global/regional quality leaders to identify and implement opportunities.
Manage and lead global product quality incident reporting and assessment tools. Progress QA digital roadmap that underpins continuous improvement, simplification, accuracy and efficiency of essential monitoring and knowledge management tools.
Coordinate updates to the quality dashboard, incident and assessment databases. Identify trends and emerging themes (e.g., leading indicators and near misses) and share insights across the business.
Manage and facilitate core expertise and input to essential forums including the Integrated Quality Forum IQF, R&AFT QAC groups, GORC, SORC, S&SC, MCR group and others as required. This includes developing annual GORC/S&SC product quality papers and tracking product quality assurance global KPIs.
Ownership, alignment and collaborative authoring & review of R&AFT shared OMS6.4 and 4.4 policies and procedures, including overarching bp Product Quality policy. Assure delivery of global policy updates and self-verification against OMS 6.4.
Conducting global root cause analysis (RCA) effectiveness reviews
Shape quality assurance capability across R&AFT by working with the Future Skills and Talent team, maintaining current training offers in grow@bp.
About you:
You will be qualified to a minimum of degree level in, Science or Engineering. Proven track record of delivery in quality assurance for a global product business, with clear evidence of driving culture, conformance and continuous improvement. Strong subject-matter expertise in fuels operations and/or manufacturing supply chain, or transferable expertise from a comparable manufacturing industry or global product supply chain. Experience maintaining or supervising a quality management system and ensuring conformance to recognised standards (e.g. ISO 9001; other standards desirable). Customer-centric approach, with experience in safety and/or risk management. Highly effective working across matrixed teams. Influential and clear communicator across organisational levels. Ability to synthesise data and information to build a clear strategic view that shapes business decisions.
This role provides exposure to the Technology, C&P, P&O and ST&S, providing the opportunity to create new networks globally, exposure to bp safety leadership principles through product quality compliance.
