Job Description - Global Manager, Speaking Engagements

The Mission:

As the Speaking Engagements Manager at Flight Studio, you will be responsible for managing and securing speaking engagements for our diverse list of talent, including but not limited to:

  • Steven Bartlett (“The Diary Of A CEO”) 
  • Paul C. Brunson 
  • Davina McCall 
  • Africa Brooke 
  • Kristen Holmes 
  • Dr Tara Swart

Reporting into our Director of Live, this role involves identifying relevant opportunities, negotiating commercial terms, coordinating logistics, (some) talent management onsite, and maximising the impact of each engagement. The ideal candidate will have a strong network within the industry including key speaking agencies, exceptional organisational skills, commercial acumen, and a keen understanding of the media and entertainment sectors.

The Outcomes:

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and implement a global speaking engagement strategy aligned with each talent's unique passion points and subject matter expertise. Create an annual calendar of proactive ‘high value’ speaking engagements for our Flight Studio talent that maximises the company’s visibility and thought leadership credentials. 
  • Relationship Building & Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with event organisers, industry associations, and key influencers (client direct + speaking agencies) to secure premium speaking slots and opportunities.
  • Commercial Growth: Hit and exceed quarterly revenue targets for Flight Studio speaking engagements. Negotiate terms, fees, and contracts for speaking to maximise outcomes for Flight Studio talent. 
  • Talent Preparation & Coordination: Work closely with all stakeholders to prepare for engagements, including comprehensive briefing documents, scheduling and logistical arrangements. 
  • Performance Tracking & Reporting: Establish metrics to evaluate the success and impact of each speaking engagement, including audience reach, engagement levels, and subsequent opportunities for growth. 
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with marketing, PR, and other internal teams to leverage speaking engagements as part of broader branding and content strategies. 
  • Issue Resolution: Develop contingency plans and respond promptly to any issues or crises related to speaking engagements. Ensure swift and effective resolution of problems to maintain the reputation of Flight Studio and its talent.

The Competencies:

  • Strategic Thinking & Planning: Ability to develop and implement a speaking strategy, specifically tailored to our Flight Studio roster and growth ambitions. This includes the ability to proactively recognise and articulate each talent's commercial pillars and speaking credentials.
  • Business Development/Commercial Acumen: Strong background in business development or partnership management, with a proven track record of closing contracts that contribute to business growth.
  • Talent Coordination: Ability to work closely with talent to understand their strengths, preferences, and personal brand positioning.
  • Relationship Management: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with event organisers, industry associations, key influencers, and all cross-functional internal teams. 
  • Project Management: Proven experience in highly effective project management, using tools and technology to deliver maximum effectiveness across multiple projects and teams. 
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Exceptional ability to think outside the box and devise creative solutions to speaking challenges  (i.e. scheduling conflicts, travel delays, talent cancellations).
