Job Description - Governance and Executive Officer

Charity People is delighted to be partnering with a medical charity to recruit for their new Governance and Executive Officer.


The charity is a leading UK professional membership organisation dedicated to advancing the study and practice of haematology. Supporting nearly 4,000 members across the UK and internationally, it plays a vital role in improving patient care through clinical guidelines, education, research support and professional networking.


As the charity continues to evolve, this newly-created role offers a fantastic opportunity to shape and strengthen governance processes while supporting the Chief Executive and Board. Joining a friendly, collaborative and ambitious team, you'll play a key role in helping it deliver its strategic objectives and continued growth.

 


Job Details



  • Role:              Governance and Executive Officer

  • Salary:           £40,000

  • Contract:       Permanent and Full Time

  • Location:      100 White Lion Street, London, N1 9PF

  • Hybrid:          Two days per week onsite (should incl. every other Wednesday)

  • Interview:      Friday 25 September (in person)


About the Role


This is a varied position combining governance coordination with executive support. You'll take ownership of key governance activities while helping to build and improve systems, processes and ways of working across the organisation.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Coordinating Board and Governance Committee meetings, including agendas, papers and minutes

  • Maintaining governance records, policies and key organisational documentation

  • Supporting the delivery of the AGM and other governance activities

  • Coordinating the production of the Society's Annual Report and Accounts

  • Supporting compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements

  • Maintaining governance registers, including declarations of interest

  • Providing executive support to the Chief Executive, including diary management and meeting coordination

  • Building effective relationships with Board members, volunteers and stakeholders

  • Identifying opportunities to streamline, modernise and improve governance processes




About You


We're looking for a highly organised, proactive and solutions-focused professional who can confidently manage competing priorities and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.


You'll bring:



  • Experience supporting boards, committees or governance functions

  • Excellent meeting administration and minute-taking skills

  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities

  • Experience producing accurate, high-quality documentation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and discretion when handling confidential information

  • Experience maintaining policies, registers or governance documentation

  • Collaborative approach with aptitude for work cross-functional working. 

  • Confidence supporting senior leaders and stakeholders

  • A practical and pragmatic approach to improving processes


Experience with digital board management platforms, Monday.com or Miro would be advantageous, but not essential.
