Job Description - Graduate Database Support Consultant
An Edinburgh-based Consultancy are looking for an ambitious IT Graduate to join their Support team as a Graduate Database Support Consultant - great opportunity to kickstart your career within a specialist area of IT.
We've worked with this business for several years now and have helped a number of people join, so we've heard great things first-hand about what it's like to work there. The organisation specialises in Database Administration and are market leaders within their sector. They're now looking for an ambitious IT Graduate that's keen to learn and grow within the support team.
This isn't one of those graduate roles where you're expected to know everything from day one. In fact, they're specifically looking for someone with an IT-related degree and the right attitude, as they'll provide all the technical training you'll need. Whether you've graduated recently or within the year or so, they're much more interested in someone that's eager to learn, has strong communications skills and enjoys solving problems.
Career progression is a huge focus within the business. They only ever recruit graduates and promote internally, meaning you'd have a genuine career path from day one. It's not uncommon for people to progress into new roles within a couple of years here, and they even pay for Oracle and Microsoft certifications, e-learning platforms and provide windows of opportunity to self-study during quieter periods on shift.
Day-to-day you'll be working as part of their Service Desk team, supporting customers using Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases. Initially you'll shadow experienced colleagues before gradually taking ownership of your own tickets, with senior engineers always on hand to help whenever needed.
You'll ideally have most of the following;
** IT-related University Degree
** Excellent communication skills
** A genuine willingness and desire to learn
** Exposure to relational databases (Oracle or SQL Server) would be advantageous
** Previous customer-facing experience would be beneficial, particularly within an IT environment
One thing worth highlighting is the shift pattern. You'll work three 13-hour shifts per week (39 hours), with the majority of your rota consisting of night shifts once you're fully trained. It's important you're comfortable with this style of working, as it's a key part of the role.
The office is based just outside Edinburgh city centre and this role is fully onsite, as you'll be learning alongside the wider team. They also have onsite parking available and have recently invested heavily in creating a modern, collaborative working environment.
In return they're able to offer a salary of £27,000 alongside a good benefits package (private healthcare and pension), as well as a genuine opportunity to develop your technical skillset, gain industry-recognised certifications and build a long-term career within a specialist area of IT.
