We’re currently recruiting for a Graduate Underwriting Assistant to join a well-established underwriting team based in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected organisation that specialises in legal indemnity insurance and supports major property and finance transactions across the UK.
In this role, you’ll work closely with experienced Underwriters, gaining hands-on experience from day one. You’ll assist in reviewing and summarising legal and property-related files, handling new business enquiries, liaising with clients and brokers, and checking policy wordings. You’ll quickly build your understanding of legal indemnity risks and develop the skills needed to assess complex scenarios, devise commercially sound solutions, and support the underwriting of high-value cases.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Gathering and organising information to support underwriting decisions
• Communicating with clients via phone and email to handle enquiries and provide updates
• Assisting in drafting and reviewing policy wordings
• Supporting the maintenance of internal systems and accurate record-keeping
• Building strong working relationships with clients, solicitors, and brokers

This is a graduate-entry role designed for individuals who want to build a career in underwriting. You’ll benefit from structured internal training, on-the-job learning, and support in working towards professional qualifications through a Continuous Professional Development programme.
To succeed in this role, you will need:

• A recent degree (2:1 or above) in law, insurance, or a property-related discipline
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organisational and analytical skills
• The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy
• A client-focused, commercially aware mindset
• A proactive, positive attitude and a willingness to learn
