Kick On Recruitment is recruiting
an experienced Field Hand /
Grass Groom for a unique opportunity within a high-security equestrian
environment.

This role is ideal for someone
who enjoys hands-on horse care and has a particular interest in young,
developing or rehabilitation horses.

You will support the daily
welfare and management of horses spending time at grass, alongside providing
ground-based training and enrichment.

• Young and
  developing horses.
  
• Newly
  purchased horses at various stages of training.
  
• Horses
  undergoing rehabilitation.
  
• Horses
  requiring periods of rest and turnout.
  
• Horses
  requiring behavioural development and bespoke ground training.
  
• A varied
  population of quality Sport Horses and traditional horse types.
  

The
Role

Key Responsibilities

• Provide
  daily husbandry and welfare support.
  
• Care for
  young, rehabilitation and grass-rest horses.
  
• Carry out
  regular field checks.
  
• Check
  fencing, water supplies and general field conditions.
  
• Report
  concerns regarding grazing areas, facilities or horse welfare.
  
• Prepare
  supplementary feeds and forage.
  
• Present
  horses for veterinary inspection and assist with treatments as instructed.
  
• Support the
  care and development of newly purchased horses.
  
• Undertake
  ground-based training including:
  

o   Walking in
hand

o   Lunging

o   Long reining

o   Enrichment
activities

o   Clicker
training

o   Behavioural
development

• Support
  horses requiring bespoke training alongside veterinary or riding staff.
  
• Follow
  appropriate isolation procedures where required.
  
• Assist with
  preparation of horses for road transport.
  
• Undertake
  travelling groom duties where required.
  
• Clean and
  maintain tack and equipment.
  
• Apply rugs
  and bandages.
  
• Assist with
  tacking up horses.
  
• Undertake
  grooming, bathing, clipping, trimming and mane and tail pulling where required
  
• Clean and maintain tack and equipment.

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and
  tidiness across stable and field areas.
  
• Liaise with other equestrian professionals.
  
• Provide additional support during staff
  absences, increased activity and major horse movements.
  
• Participate in emergency procedures.
  
• Work essential overtime where requested and
  formally approved.
  
• Participate in weekend care on a rotational
  basis.
  

Working
Environment

This role
involves working both outdoors and within stable environments, supporting
horses at grass, during rehabilitation and throughout their development.

The role is
based within a high-security
site, and successful candidates will be required to comply with
all relevant security procedures, site rules and operational protocols.

A background
check will be required as part of the recruitment process.

Working
Pattern

Core working
hours are 07:00–16:00,
Monday to Friday.

There will
be a rotational requirement for one member of the team to work an extended
shift until approximately 17:00 to support evening preparation.

Weekend care
is also required on a rotational basis.

Requirements

We are
looking for someone with practical horse experience who is confident working
both independently and as part of a wider team.

You will
ideally have:

• Previous
  experience caring for horses professionally.
  
• Strong
  horse handling skills.
  
• Good
  knowledge of daily horse husbandry.
  
• Confidence
  working with horses from the ground.
  
• Experience
  with young, rehabilitation or developing horses would be advantageous.
  
• An
  understanding of grazing and field management.
  
• Good
  attention to detail.
  
• The
  ability to identify and report concerns with horses, fencing, water and
  grazing.
  
• A
  practical and proactive approach.
  
• A
  reliable and flexible attitude.
  
• The
  ability to work outdoors in a hands-on environment.
  

Benefits

• Salary: £27,000
  
• Annual Leave: 25 days’ annual leave per annum, with additional time off provided where bank holiday duties are worked, in line with the rota and operational requirements.
