Grounds Maintenance Operative

2 Month Contract With A Local Authority

To carry out a range of grounds maintenance tasks to ensure that outdoor spaces are clean, safe, well-kept, and visually appealing. This includes grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, litter picking, and general upkeep of public or private grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

• Mow lawns and grassed areas using pedestrian or ride-on mowers
  




• Trim hedges, shrubs, and trees using appropriate tools and equipment
  




• Carry out planting, pruning, weeding, and seasonal bedding tasks
  




• Maintain pathways, car parks, and hard surfaces, including sweeping and pressure washing
  




• Undertake general grounds tidiness tasks, such as litter picking and emptying bins
  




• Apply pesticides, herbicides, or fertilisers safely as required (if qualified)
  




• Operate and maintain a variety of horticultural machinery and hand tools
  




• Perform basic maintenance checks and cleaning of equipment
  




• Follow work schedules and instructions from the supervisor or team leader
  




• Report any damage, hazards, or vandalism observed during work
  




• Comply with health and safety regulations and use appropriate PPE
  




• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain high work standards
  




• Engage politely with members of the public when approached
  

Requirements

• Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a similar outdoor manual role
  




• Ability to operate grounds maintenance tools and machinery (e.g., mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters)
  




• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  




• Basic understanding of health and safety requirements
  




• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  




• Good timekeeping and reliability
  




• Physically fit and capable of manual handling duties
