Head of Engineering, Science & Automotive – Further Education

£67,557 per annum | Permanent | Full-time

We are working exclusively with a leading university-based education provider to recruit an experienced Head of Engineering, Science & Automotive to lead an expanding Further Education curriculum area.

This is a senior curriculum leadership opportunity for an experienced FE professional who can combine strategic leadership with strong industry knowledge and a commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience.

The Role

Reporting to the Assistant Principal (STEM), you will provide academic and operational leadership across Engineering, Science and Automotive, working closely with senior leadership to implement the department’s strategy.

You will have responsibility for:

* Leading the overall performance and development of the department.

* Providing strategic and operational leadership across Engineering, Science and Automotive provision.

* Ensuring an engaging, industry-focused curriculum that meets the needs of students and employers.

* Driving improvements in teaching, learning, retention, achievement and positive destinations.

* Leading quality improvement activity, including self-assessment, quality reviews and Ofsted readiness.

* Managing and developing staff, including recruitment, performance management and professional development.

* Overseeing curriculum planning, timetabling, work experience, placements and resource allocation.

* Managing departmental budgets, facilities and equipment effectively.

* Building strong relationships with employers, awarding organisations and other external stakeholders.

* Using performance data and KPIs to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement.

* Maintaining an active involvement in teaching and student supervision.

About You

We are looking for an experienced FE curriculum leader with a strong background in Engineering, Science, Automotive or a closely related technical discipline.

You will ideally have:

* Significant experience within Further Education, including leadership of a relevant curriculum area.

* A strong track record of delivering high-quality teaching and learning.

* Experience working within Engineering, Science or Automotive, either within education or industry.

* Experience managing staff, budgets, curriculum delivery and resources.

* A good understanding of Ofsted expectations and quality processes within FE.

* Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop teams.

* Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.

* The ability to analyse performance data and translate it into meaningful improvement.

* A relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.

* A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to obtain one.

* A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and the PREVENT agenda.
