Head of Finance

Company Overview

We are working with a dynamic SME with a turnover of £50m and £3m profit, operating as a residential construction business. As they grow and evolve, they are seeking a steady, hands-on Head of Finance to lead their small team and bring rigour to their financial processes. Backed by Private Equity, their reporting and financial detail expectations are increasing, and they're looking for someone who can help them meet those standards.

The Role
This is a key leadership role overseeing all aspects of financial management, reporting, and control. You'll be instrumental in improving processes, understanding job-level margin variance, and delivering timely and accurate financials. The role is ideal for someone 3-4 years post-qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), ideally from an SME background, who is ready to take full ownership and make an impact.

You will manage a small, capable finance team of three, including a Management Accountant and an Accounts Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a finance team of 3
• Own month-end close and monthly balance sheet reviews
• Improve financial processes and reporting frameworks
• Deliver accurate variance analysis across multiple subcontractor-driven projects
• Prepare and present detailed management accounts to MD and PE stakeholders
• Ensure cashflow forecasting and budgeting are robust and reliable
• Work closely with operational teams to understand margins and cost drivers
• Drive compliance, financial governance, and audit readiness

What We're Looking For

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with 3-4 years PQE
• Proven experience in an SME, ideally with subcontractor or job-costing exposure
• Strong understanding of balance sheets, cashflow, and management accounts
• Able to operate independently and build/improve processes from the ground up
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics (Advantageous)
