Head of Finance

Reed Finance are delighted to bring to the market a new interim Head of Finance opportunity with one of our Public Sector clients in Aberdeen.

This is a senior leadership opportunity and ideally suited to an experienced finance professional with experience in leading financial operations of a large, multi-site institution. The Head of Finance will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering financial strategy, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Finance team
• Ensure compliance with statutory, audit, and funding body requirements
• Oversee the preparation of financial statements and audit processes
• Manage the full budget cycle and ensure robust financial forecasting
• Deliver accurate and timely management accounts and financial reports
• Maintain and enhance financial systems and internal controls
• Lead cash management, banking, and investment activities
• Support value-for-money assessments and special projects
• Collaborate with senior leadership to support strategic priorities
• Provide financial insight and guidance to budget holders
• Build strong relationships with auditors, regulators, and external partners

Person Specification

• Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent)
• Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role
• Strong understanding of public sector or education finance
