Head of Finished Art

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Head of Finished Art to lead the craft, accuracy and delivery of Mammoth’s finished artwork. As part of Mammoth’s creative leadership, you’ll help shape studio standards and decisions from briefing through to production. You’ll remain hands-on with complex work while developing the team, improving systems and making sure the quality of the original idea carries through to every final output. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Represent finished art within creative leadership, contributing to reviews, resource planning and studio-wide quality standards. 

• Lead and develop the finished art team through clear delegation, regular feedback, coaching and development goals. 

• Own artwork quality checks and technical release standards, confirming the required creative and client approvals before production. 

• Set pre-press standards for bleed, slug, creep, overprint, spot colours, resolution, compression and output settings. 

• Champion typography and layout craft, including kerning, tracking, leading, hierarchy, grids, white space, rivers, orphans and widows. 

• Translate creative direction into accurate print, digital and large-format artwork, protecting the idea while refining execution. 

• Identify gaps in brand guidelines and work with designers to improve rules, templates and consistency. 

• Advise at briefing stage on feasibility, specifications, production risks and efficient ways to deliver. 

• Plan workloads with client services and creative leads, flagging capacity, scope and deadline risks early. 

• Lead complex troubleshooting and supplier liaison; improve file organisation, version control, handovers and production workflows. 

Skills and Qualifications 

• Extensive finished art and production experience, with a record of reliable delivery across complex brand projects. 

• Expert InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat skills, alongside deep pre-press and colour-management knowledge. 

• Excellent typography, composition and attention to detail, with the judgement to preserve creative intent. 

• Proven leadership, mentoring and delegation skills, with the confidence to influence creative and commercial decisions. 

• Calm, accountable communication with designers, client services and production partners. 

Performance Expectations 

• Consistently accurate, brand-aligned artwork; review errors, rework and their causes to prevent recurrence. 

• Reliable delivery against agreed milestones, with risks raised early and complete, traceable handovers. 

• Visible team development through coaching, stronger independent problem-solving and shared technical knowledge. 

• Practical improvements to guidelines and workflows, with progress reviewed through creative leadership. 

Bonus Points 

• Experience with production automation, asset management or accessible document production. 

• Ability to support agreed studio systems and onboarding where capacity allows; IT support is an additional responsibility.
