Job Description - Head of Hospitality

Head of Hospitality
Reports To: Home Manager
Location: Plane Tree Court Care Home
Direct Reports: Housekeeping Team
Hours: 40 hours per week
About Us
Plane Tree Court is renowned for providing high-quality, person-centred care in a warm and supportive environment. We are committed to enhancing the lives of our residents and supporting their families.
Role Overview:
The Hospitality Manager is responsible for the presentation, cleanliness, and overall guest-standard experience of Plane Tree Court. This role leads the housekeeping team and owns delivery of the home's Standard Operating Procedures covering presentation standards, cleaning and infection control, COSHH and chemical safety, linen and laundry management, and the furniture and equipment audit and inventory programme.
These procedures are non-negotiable. They apply every shift, every day, without exception, and the Hospitality Manager is responsible for ensuring the whole housekeeping team meets them consistently.
Key Responsibilities:
Presentation Standards
Set and maintain luxury, hotel-standard presentation across bedrooms, bathrooms, and all communal areas (entrance and reception, lounge, dining room, and corridors), including bed-making and turndown standards, towel and toiletry presentation, and seasonal and floral presentation.
Cleaning Standards & Infection Control
Oversee the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning schedule across all areas of the home. Ensure the colour-coded cloth system and correct cleaning procedures are followed for all equipment and surfaces, including beds and mattresses, pressure relief equipment, hoists and slings, wheelchairs and transfer aids, furniture, and clinical and specialist equipment, in line with CQC infection control requirements.
COSHH & Chemical Safety
Ensure all housekeeping staff are trained and signed off before using any chemical product. Maintain the COSHH folder and Safety Data Sheets, ensure correct storage, dilution, and labelling of all chemicals, and ensure appropriate PPE is used and spillages are managed and reported correctly.
Linen & Laundry Management
Maintain linen handling and infection-control standards, conduct the weekly linen audit, and ensure minimum par stock levels are maintained for bed linen and towels, reporting any shortfall to the Home Manager.
Furniture & Equipment Audit
Conduct the formal monthly furniture and equipment audit across all resident rooms and communal areas, rating condition on the home's 1–5 scale, photographing and escalating any item rated Poor or Replace Now, and submitting the audit summary to the Home Manager by the 25th of each month.
Equipment Inventory Management
Maintain the home's live furniture and equipment inventory as the single source of truth for all furnishings and equipment. Keep records current within 5 working days of any purchase, disposal, condition change, or approved replacement, and produce the monthly replacement report to inform CAPEX planning.
Daily
* Conduct a full walk-round of the building at the start and end of every shift using the presentation checklist
* Brief the housekeeping team at the start of each shift — allocate rooms, confirm priorities, review any special requirements
* Ensure trolleys are stocked, labelled, and in order before housekeeping staff begin their shifts
* Check communal areas — entrance, lounge, dining room, and corridors — are to standard before the home receives visitors
* Manage any urgent issues arising — spillages, complaints, maintenance requests — and escalate appropriately
* Check and sign off completed rooms against the daily checklist
* Ensure all linen handling, COSHH, and waste procedures are followed correctly
Weekly
* Complete the weekly linen audit — stock count, quality check, remove sub-standard items
* Complete the weekly deep clean schedule and confirm completion
* Review housekeeping supplies — order any items below par level
* Review any maintenance requests raised by the housekeeping team and follow up on outstanding jobs
* Check all cleaning equipment — vacuum cleaners, mops, steam cleaners — are clean, functional, and in good condition
* Hold a brief team check-in — any concerns, feedback, or development needs from the housekeeping team
Monthly
* Conduct the full furniture and equipment audit across all rooms and communal areas
* Update the equipment inventory
* Produce and submit the monthly replacement report and audit summary to the Home Manager by the 25th of each month
* Review the COSHH folder — check SDS sheets are current, products are within expiry, cupboard is locked and compliant
* Complete the housekeeping trolley deep clean and product review
* Review seasonal presentation — plan and brief the team on any seasonal changes required
* Attend the monthly management meeting or submit a written update to the Home Manager
Key Relationships
* Home Manager — day-to-day line management, escalation of audit findings, CAPEX and replacement reporting
* Housekeeping Team — direct leadership, shift briefing, training, and performance
* Nursing & Care Team — coordination on clinical equipment cleaning, resident room access, and resident wellbeing
* Operations — escalation route for urgent (Replace Now) equipment and furniture items via the Home Manager
Requirements:
Proven experience leading a housekeeping or hospitality team, ideally within a care home, hotel, or other high-standard hospitality environment
A meticulous eye for detail and a genuine pride in presentation, consistency, and finish
Working knowledge of COSHH regulations and infection control practice, or a willingness to be trained and signed off on the home's procedures
Strong organisational skills, comfortable maintaining audit records, inventories, and reporting to deadline
Confident, clear communicator able to brief, train, and motivate a team, and to liaise with the Home Manager and other departments
A leader who sets the standard by example, and holds the team to the same standard consistently
