Head of Operational Risk

We are specifically designed to build new products with the speed and creativity of a fintech start-up. Technology and design are at the heart of everything we do.

As the Head of Operational Risk, you will own Breaking Wave’s risk management framework and collaborate with other functions to implement and evaluate the controls it defines. You will also be responsible for Breaking Wave’s Key Risk Indicators and the associated risk event handling procedures and processes. Breaking Wave is currently on a journey to automate all its operations, and you will play a key role in supporting the delivering of this. You will have overall oversight of the key operational processes and procedures and own the Key Operational Procedure documentation. Your key responsibility will be to keep Breaking Wave operating within risk appetite and remain compliant with Deutsche Bank’s group policies.

Once you are here, you will:

• Own the Non-Financial Risk Management Framework and its associated risk control assessment procedure.


• Be responsible for measuring the inherent and residual risk levels of all activities within Breaking Wave.


• Own the Breaking Wave risk event process and relevant procedures.


• Interlock with the relevant Deutsche Bank functions to maintain appropriate risk level and compliance.


• Head the assessment of internal control effectiveness, vendor risk and overall ongoing risk level.


• Interact with external vendors as required to assess risk level.


• Hold periodic reviews of control performance.


• Be accountable to the Breaking Wave Board as the owner of operational risk for the Breaking Wave entity.

• Experience of working in a start-up or scale up desirable.

• Great communications skills – ability to work with our customers.


• Ability to judge when policies & formal approaches are needed versus more appropriate solutions considering Breaking Wave’s culture.


• Mature and smart – able to see the pros and cons of different approaches.
