Head of Operations – Care and Support



Salary: £53,510 – £56,775 per annum
Hours: Full-time – 39 hours per week
Location: South Yorkshire & Hull (with regular travel across services)

About the Role


We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Head of Operations – (Care & Support) to provide strategic and operational leadership across our accommodation-based and community outreach services in South Yorkshire and Hull. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a key role in delivering our strategic objectives, leading service improvement, and ensuring high-quality, safe, and effective care and support for people with complex needs. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of services, ensuring strong performance across quality, compliance, financial sustainability, and workforce development. As a senior leader within the organisation, you will work collaboratively with NHS partners, Local Authorities, commissioners, and other stakeholders to shape and develop services that respond to local need and national priorities. This role requires flexibility, resilience, and a strong commitment to driving positive change for people severely affected by learning disability and multiple disadvantage.


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to implement organisational strategy and manage change effectively.

  • Provide strategic leadership across a portfolio of care and support services, ensuring delivery meets contractual, quality, and financial requirements.

  • Lead and support a team of Service Managers, fostering a culture of inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure services consistently deliver safe, high-quality, person-centred care, meeting and exceeding regulatory and CQC standards.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with commissioners, funders, and strategic partners to influence service design and growth.

  • Drive innovation and service development, aligning practice with national policy, best practice, and organisational priorities.

  • Oversee financial performance, ensuring services operate within budget and deliver value for money.

  • Identify opportunities for managed service expansion and income growth, working collaboratively with  Development team.

  • Provide senior safeguarding leadership, ensuring robust safeguarding arrangements are in place, with clear reporting, escalation, and accountability across all services.

  • Champion a culture of openness, learning, and continuous improvement, ensuring incidents, near misses, and safeguarding concerns are reviewed, lessons are learned, and improvements are embedded into practice.

  • Participate in the organisation’s on-call rota as required.

What We’re Looking For



Essential:



  • Proven experience as a Registered Manager leading multi-site supported living or residential services within health and social care.

  • Experience managing complex contracts and geographically dispersed teams.

  • Strong leadership skills, with a track record of developing teams and driving high standards of performance.

  • A proactive approach to quality assurance, health & safety, and regulatory compliance, including CQC standards.

  • Ability to analyse operational challenges and implement effective action plans to achieve service improvement.

  • A Level 5 qualification (or higher) in Care, Leadership, or Management, or equivalent demonstrable experience.



Desirable:



  • Experience working with people with complex needs, such as mental health, learning disabilities, autism, or brain injury.

  • Experience working in partnership with NHS and Local Authority commissioners.
