  About the Role:
  
  
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Technology department, encompassing both Design & Technology (including areas like product design, resistant materials, and potentially others) and Computer Science.
  
  
  • Lead the development and implementation of an engaging and coherent curriculum across all key stages in both subject areas, ensuring progression and high standards of teaching and learning.
  
  
  • Line manage and support a team of teachers across both Design & Technology and Computer Science, fostering a collaborative and high-achieving departmental culture.
  
  
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of all subjects within the Technology department, ensuring excellent student outcomes and effective use of resources.
  
  
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, and student progress across the department, implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
  
  
  • Manage the departmental budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated appropriately to support both Design & Technology workshops and Computer Science labs.
  
  
  • Contribute to the broader strategic planning of the school and work collaboratively with other Heads of Department and the Senior Leadership Team.
  
  
  • Stay abreast of developments in both Design & Technology and Computer Science education and implement relevant innovations within the department.
  
  
  
  


• 
  Ideal Candidate:
  
  
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong background in either Design & Technology or Computer Science, and a good understanding of the other discipline.
  
  
  • Significant and successful experience teaching in at least one of the core areas of the Technology department (DT or CS) at the secondary level, with demonstrable leadership experience and a track record of raising student achievement.
  
  
  • A strong understanding of the curriculum and effective pedagogical approaches in both Design & Technology and Computer Science.
  
  
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both students and a diverse team of teachers.
  
  
  • Experience in curriculum development, assessment, departmental management, and budget management.
  
  
  • A clear vision for the role of technology education in a comprehensive school setting and a commitment to ensuring all students have access to high-quality learning experiences in these areas.
