MERITUS are recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager role for our client specialising in Life Sciences & Pharmaceutical construction. *PLEASE NOTE* In order to qualify for the position, you must have demonstrable experience within the Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical industry.

HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER - £NEG - MACCLESFIELD - LIFE SCIENCES & PHARMACEUTICAL

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to support operational teams across construction projects. This role involves implementing health and safety strategy, carrying out inspections, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement across all levels of the business.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong leadership in promoting a positive health and safety culture.

  • Support the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager in implementing company-wide HSE strategies, including SOPs and guidance materials.

  • Conduct thorough and regular safety inspections across construction sites, ensuring compliance and providing feedback.

  • Lead or support risk reviews, and perform these independently when required.

  • Respond to accidents or incidents, assisting with investigations and leading where necessary in the absence of senior site leadership.

  • Engage with enforcement authorities during site visits or post-incident investigations.

  • Adapt health and safety systems to meet specific client requirements, with appropriate approvals.

  • Contribute to tender and prequalification submissions by offering practical HSE input and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Participate in project start-up meetings and represent the HSE function in meetings with clients and the supply chain.

  • Promote use of the management system, providing coaching and guidance to ensure consistent application.

  • Deliver internal training on relevant health and safety topics.

Experience and Skills
  • Chartered Member or Graduate Member of IOSH (CMIOSH or Grad IOSH).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience within the construction industry.

  • At least 5 years in a professional Health and Safety role.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity in root cause analysis.

  • Proven ability to lead improvement initiatives and deliver effective training.

  • Experience mentoring or supporting trainees within the HSE function.

Qualifications
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.

  • NEBOSH Construction Diploma or equivalent.

  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Awareness of lifting operations and associated safety standards.
