Health and Safety Supervisor

Astute's Renewables Team is partnering with a global EPC contractor in the renewable energy sector, to recruit a Health and Safety Supervisor for its large-scale solar farm in Cressing, Braintree, Essex.

The strategically important Health and Safety Supervisor role comes with a salary up to £65,000, a 10% pension, private health insurance and life insurance.

Responsibilities and duties of the Health and Safety Supervisor role

Reporting to the Site Manager / Project Management Team, you will:

Review Pre-Construction Information (PCI), project drawings and the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan (CPHSP) to identify foreseeable health and safety risks and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.

Ensure the site complies with all relevant HSE legislation, documentation and company safety management procedures.

Prepare, maintain and submit site health and safety files in accordance with project requirements.

Prepare risk assessments and environmental risk assessments, reviewing subcontractors' Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and providing feedback where amendments are required.

Develop and deliver site-specific HSE inductions, ensuring workers understand identified hazards and control measures.

Prepare and maintain the site emergency plan, traffic management plan and Site Environmental Waste Management Plan.

Ensure appropriate welfare facilities, H&S signage, fire safety equipment and first aid provisions are maintained throughout the construction phase.

Lead on safe systems of work, promoting best practice and addressing unsafe conditions and practices across the site.

Coordinate site security, banksmen, traffic management and subcontractor health and safety activities.

Liaise with local authorities, landowners, the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and other relevant stakeholders where required.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent relevant NEBOSH qualification.

NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety.

A recognised construction-related health and safety qualification or relevant construction industry certification.

Valid First Aid at Work certification, including defibrillator training.

A strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation, construction site procedures and risk management.

Personal skills

The Health and Safety Supervisor role would suit someone who is:

Experienced in health and safety supervision within an industrial or construction environment.

Ideally experienced in the solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS) or wider renewables sector, although this is not essential.

Confident reviewing RAMS, conducting site inspections and implementing effective risk control measures.

A strong communicator who can engage effectively with subcontractors, site teams and external stakeholders.

Proactive in identifying hazards, resolving safety issues and promoting a positive health and safety culture.

Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage competing priorities.

Comfortable working on a large-scale construction project and ensuring high standards of site safety at all times.

Salary and benefits of the Health and Safety Supervisor role

Salary: £60,000-£65,000 per annum.

Pension: 10% pension.
