A well-established multi-site food manufacturer is looking to appoint a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join their West Midlands site. This role is an integral part of the leadership team, with a focus on collaborative working to ensure their existing commitment to HSE is not only maintained but pushed to the next level.
As the HSE Manager, you will hold ultimate accountability for ensuring the site operates in full compliance with all relevant UK safety and environmental legislation, food industry standards and company policies. You will play a vital role in embedding a proactive culture of safety and sustainability; safeguarding the workforce, protecting product integrity and enabling efficient manufacturing operations.
The Role Key responsibilities include:
Site Leadership: Act as the appointed Competent Person for the site under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. Serve as a key member of the Site Leadership Team to drive site cohesion across all departments. Continuous Improvement: Work closely with stakeholders to design, develop and deliver a best-practice safety improvement plan. Risk Management: Develop, maintain and audit site-wide risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work, ensuring hazards are identified, mitigated and reduced to ALARP. Incident Investigation: Own the end-to-end accident and incident investigation process, diving deep into root-cause analysis and sharing key learnings across the wider group. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align HSE protocols directly with food safety and hygiene controls. Work closely with the Technical and Hygiene teams to manage contractors, chemical usage and workforce safety without compromising food integrity. Audits & Compliance: Represent the site during critical audits from regulatory authorities, accreditation bodies and major retail customers. Ensure all documentation is accurate and corrective actions are closed out promptly. Culture & Training: Implement a proactive behavioural safety. Ensure all employees, agency staff and contractors receive thorough, recorded safety training and refresher courses.
About You
Qualifications: You will hold your NEBOSH general certificate as a minimum and ideally hold or want to works towards Diploma level. Experience: Proven HSE management experience gained within a food manufacturing, FMCG, or fast-paced production environment. Legislation: Deep working knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental regulations, including OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 Attributes: Exceptional leadership, coaching and influencing skills, with a track record of driving behavioural change and winning buy in across the site.
