Heavy Plant Fitter – Large Plant Equipment

Location: Cardiff
Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm
Pay rate: £19.00 per hour

A great opportunity has become available for an experienced Mechanical Plant Fitter to join a well‑established engineering operation specialising in large plant and heavy mechanical assemblies. This role suits someone who enjoys hands‑on engineering, problem‑solving, and working on machinery that genuinely challenges your technical ability. Welding or basic fabrication experience is beneficial and supports a wide range of repair and overhaul tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Stripping, inspecting and rebuilding heavy mechanical components
Working on gearboxes, drivetrains and large mechanical assemblies
Using overhead cranes, jibs and lifting equipment safely
Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on plant equipment
Diagnosing mechanical faults and completing high‑quality repairs
Reading and interpreting technical drawings and engineering documentation
Ensuring all work is completed in line with safety procedures and quality standards
What We’re Looking For

Strong mechanical fitting background (plant, rail, HGV, industrial, marine or similar)
Experience working with heavy components and lifting equipment
Confident with mechanical fault‑finding and diagnostics
Welding or fabrication experience is beneficial
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good understanding of health & safety in an engineering environment
Reliable, proactive and keen to develop new skills
