Job Description - Herdsperson - Dorset

Every other weekend off with a day off in the week

Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

3-Bedroom house on the farm.

Essential Criteria:

-        Demonstrate previous experience in dairy farming

-        Share our passion for cows, being enthusiastic and committed to achieving high standards

NOTE – You will be working directly for the farm, not through REAL Success.

Our Farm

We are a well-established family-run farm with youngstock reared on separate units. The herd consists of 600 cross-bred cows and is milked twice daily through a 30/60 swingover with ACRs, averaging 6,750 litres. The milk is supplied on a Cheese contract to Barbers with all our records and data kept up to date using Uniform. We operate on a split-block calving system and rear our own replacement heifers.

You will be part of a passionate team of 6, plus some relief staff and the farm owners.

Your Role

As the Herdsperson, you will work closely with the dairy team, reporting directly to the owner to help with all aspects of the dairy operation. Roles and responsibilities will include:

·       Supporting the herd and ensuring animal welfare are the top priorities.

·       Daily management of milking to a high standard as part of a team and ensuring the parlour is kept clean and safe to operate.

·       Treating & identifying illnesses and informing the owner of any observations.

·       Grass management and allocating

·       Supporting with dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols.

·       Keeping the overall farm tidy and safe to operate

·       Dairy herd record keeping and data reporting through Uniform

·       General stockperson and yard work

·       A full UK Driving license

·       Proof of UK right to work

·       A Foot trimming and AI Qualification preferred

·       You will be a confident individual who has a high attention to detail and strong communication skills.

·       Be friendly, organised, and keen to have positive working relationships with your colleagues.

·       Share our passion for cows and dairy.

·       A three-bedroom house with a large, enclosed garden next to the farm.
