Job Description - Herdsperson - Somerset

Open to discussing a shift pattern

£35,000 - £40,000 per annum

Accommodation is available depending on your circumstances

Essential criteria:

·       2 years of experience on a dairy farm

·       Foot Trimming qualified.

Note – You will be working directly for the farm, not through REAL Success Ltd

Our Farm

We are a family-run farm, proud to have operated a successful farming business since 1923. We farm 900 acres, which is a mix cropped made up of grass, maize and cereals.  We have a dairy herd of 700 plus followers, who are housed and calved all year round. Our cows are milked through a 40/40 Rapid exit, with their milk supplied to Saputo. We have 2 other skilled herdspersons supporting the herd and a well-established team.

Our farm is well invested and progressive. We operate a business built on family values that care for their cows and people to the highest standard. We have a strong sense of teamwork, and our ability to work well with one another is of great importance to our business.

Your role

As a member of our Herd team, you will:

  • Work within your team to oversee the daily well-being of the herd, ensuring animal welfare is your top priority.
  • Perform ad hoc milking to a high and consistent standard.
  • Work with the other 2 Herdspersons to maintain records, ensuring data is kept up to date and used to benefit the herd’s wellbeing.
  • Treat & identify illnesses and inform the farm owner of any observations, ensuring treatments are provided in a timely manner.
  • Complete preventative and routine foot trimming.
  • Keep the farm overall tidy & safe to operate

·       Hold a UK Driving Licence

·       Have a UK Right to Work

·       Have a Foot trimming ticket

·       Be friendly and supportive and work well as part of a team

·       Have a high attention to detail, be cow-oriented and have 2 years experience working on a dairy farm.

·       £35,000 - £40,000 per annum dependent on experience

·       Accommodation available depending on circumstances
