Following the success of our last Armed Forces Car Transporter Driver Assessment Day, Major Forces is hosting another dedicated assessment opportunity for serving and former Armed Forces personnel looking to transition into a professional car transporter driving career with a major UK automotive organisation.

The previous assessment resulted in candidates being offered roles, including serving personnel who have secured opportunities to start at the end of their military service — with start dates agreed as far ahead as April 2028.

This means you do not need to be leaving the Armed Forces immediately to attend the assessment and explore the opportunity.

The Opportunity

Major Forces is recruiting HGV Class 1 and Class 2 drivers for a specialist Car Transporter Driver pathway, with opportunities available across multiple UK locations.

No previous car transporter experience is required.

Successful candidates receive four weeks of intensive specialist training, developing the skills required to safely load, secure, transport and unload vehicles using specialist car transporters.

This opportunity is particularly suited to Armed Forces personnel with substantial military driving experience who may not yet have commercial HGV or car transporter experience.

What Does the Role Involve?

As a Car Transporter Driver, you'll be responsible for the safe collection, transportation and delivery of vehicles across the UK.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Driving a specialist multi-vehicle car transporter

*

Collecting and delivering vehicles across the UK

*

Safely loading and unloading vehicles

*

Correctly positioning and securing vehicles for transportation

*

Carrying out vehicle and transporter safety checks

*

Completing collections and deliveries safely and efficiently

*

Completing relevant vehicle and delivery documentation

*

Taking responsibility for the vehicles in your care

*

Maintaining high safety and professional standards

*

Working independently and managing your workload effectively

You do not need previous car transporter experience. The four weeks of intensive specialist training will teach you the car transportation element of the role.

For military HGV drivers, many of the core skills will already be familiar — operating large vehicles safely, carrying out vehicle checks, working independently, following procedures and taking responsibility for valuable equipment.

Still Serving and Don't Have Your Driver CPC?

You can still attend the assessment.

Serving military personnel who hold the appropriate HGV entitlement but have not yet completed their Driver CPC can still be considered for the assessment day.

This gives you the opportunity to be assessed while you're still serving rather than having to wait until every element of your transition is complete.

Use Your Resettlement to Get Ready Before You Leave

For serving personnel, there is also the option to use your resettlement period to complete the four weeks of specialist training before leaving the Armed Forces.

This means you could complete the specialist training while still serving and be trained and ready to start your new career when your military service ends.

If your discharge date is still some way off, don't assume it's too early to apply. Our previous assessment resulted in opportunities being secured for personnel with service dates running as far ahead as April 2028.

HGV Class 1 licence holders

Personnel who have gained their civilian HGV entitlement through ELCAS

Serving personnel with the appropriate HGV entitlement who have not yet completed their Driver CPC

If you've spent your military career operating large vehicles but don't have commercial car transporter experience, don't let that stop you applying. The specialist training is designed to bridge that gap.

Important – Working Away From Home

Due to the nature of car transporter operations, you must be willing and able to work away from home.

Depending on the location and opportunity available, you will be required to work either:

Monday to Friday – working away from home during the week, or

*

4 on / 4 off – including nights away from home during your working rotation

This is an essential requirement of the role, so please only apply if you are comfortable working away from home.
