HGV Class 2 Driver / Team Leader â 3 Month Contract

Rate: £20.21 per hour (Umbrella)

Working Hours: 2:00pm â 10:00pm

Job Description
Summary
This 3-month contract role involves operating HGV Class 2 vehicles and supporting the delivery of frontline environmental services. The successful candidate will ensure the safe operation of heavy goods vehicles, oversee daily route activities, support crew performance, and maintain high standards of safety, customer service, and operational efficiency. You will represent the Council positively while collaborating with collection crews, supervisors, residents, and service users.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation
Safely operate HGV Class 2 vehicles in compliance with road traffic legislation and Council procedures.
Conduct daily vehicle inspections and safety checks.
Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant at all times.
Promptly report defects and vehicle issues.
Crew Leadership
Lead and support operational crews during daily service delivery.
Allocate tasks and provide work instructions.
Monitor performance and ensure routes are completed efficiently.
Promote teamwork and safe working practices.
Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and operational procedures.
Promote safe systems of work in traffic and public environments.
Report accidents, incidents, hazards, and near misses.
Ensure the safety of crew members, residents, and the public.
Service Delivery
Support the efficient delivery of environmental and waste collection services.
Monitor route progress and address operational issues.
Ensure services are completed to agreed standards and timescales.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and service quality.
Technology & Record Keeping
Use in-cab systems and associated software to record service activities.
Record incidents, missed collections, defects, and operational information.
Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
Customer Service
Represent the Council professionally at all times.
Communicate effectively with residents and members of the public.
Respond appropriately to enquiries and service requests.
Promote a positive image of the service.

Qualifications
Valid Category C (HGV Class 2) Licence.
Driver CPC Qualification Card.
Digital Tachograph Card.
Knowledge
Knowledge of road traffic legislation and safe driving practices.
Understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
Understanding of vehicle inspection and compliance requirements.
Awareness of customer service principles.
Experience
Experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles.
Experience undertaking vehicle safety checks.
Experience working within waste collection, environmental services, logistics, or similar operational environments.
Experience leading or coordinating small teams.
Desirable: Previous local authority or environmental services experience and experience operating in-cab technology and route management systems.

PPE Requirements
The following PPE must be supplied and worn by the candidate:
Orange High-Visibility Trousers
Orange High-Visibility T-Shirt
Orange High-Visibility Jumper
Orange High-Visibility Coat
Orange High-Visibility Waterproof Clothing
Boots and gloves will be provided by the client.
Additional Information
This is a 3-month temporary contract.
Rate: £20.21 per hour (Umbrella).
Location: Eastcroft, Nottingham.
Working Hours: 2:00pm â 10:00pm.
Pay is provided on a bi-weekly basis.
Valid HGV Class 2 Licence and CPC are essential.
Induction date is 3rd August and attendance is mandatory.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and in all weather conditions is essential.
Previous local authority or environmental services experience is highly desirable.
