Job Description - HGV Mechanic Belfast

We’re looking for a skilled and reliable HGV Mechanic to join our team and help keep our fleet running smoothly. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy goods vehicles, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working with HGVs, strong diagnostic skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship. A relevant qualification in vehicle maintenance and a full driving licence are essential.

  • Vehicle maintenance – Planned and unplanned - Bulk tankers, flatbeds, trailers and forklifts. Provide call out for breakdowns as requested.
  • Gas system inspections / repairs – planned and reactive repairs to gas systems.
  • Record keeping - Complete all job cards on a digital garage system. Maintain and process daily paperwork and submit at the end of the shift or job.
  • Reporting - Report any vehicle defects, accident damage, depot defects and all safety events to the Transport Manager and online platform.
  • Parts Management – Order, receipt, store and call off spare parts. Maintain an essential spares stock.
  • Vehicle Safety Inspections - Carry out and record pre use walk around vehicle checks.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles – power washing and cleaning cab interiors.
  • Refuelling Tankers - all bulk road tankers as required.
  • Load Tankers - LPG tankers in line with Calor loading procedures.
  • Offload Tankers - LPG in the event of an over-fill or in preparation of maintenance activity in line with Calor procedures.
  • Driving - Produce all licences for inspection. Take full tankers to meet core drivers or various garages. Adhere to tachograph regulations in relation to driving times and rest periods. Download digital tachograph card daily.
  • Gas Delivery – Assist with gas deliveries as and when required.
  • Emergency Response - Provide emergency assistance at the depot, roadside or at a customer’s site.
  • Depot / Garage Checks - Perform basic depot checks and housekeeping duties as required so all work areas are maintained to a high standard.
  • Work Equipment Checks – Ensure all work equipment is checked prior to work activity, is kept clean and calibrated with records.
  • Training - Undertake training in new processes and equipment in line with continuous development.
  • New Tasks - Take on new tasks as outlined by the Transport Manager.
  • Flexible Work - Work to a flexible schedule as required by maintenance demands.
  • To deliver excellence in customer experience (CX) by embodying Calor’s values and upholding the standards of accountability, seamless service, and curiosity.
  • Ensure that health and safety of yourself and your colleagues is a priority in everything that you do - log Health and Safety conversations, as appropriate focusing on either an ‘unsafe condition’ where we see something that could cause injury to a person or an ‘unsafe act’ which is something that someone does that can lead to injury.
  • 2 years mechanic experience.
  • Hold a clean full LGV licence – C or CE categories.
  • Up to date driver CPC card.
  • ADR Tanks 2 and packages 2 – training will be provided.
  • Health and Safety, awareness and knowledge essential.
  • Be safety conscious when onsite.
  • Flexibility and availability for emergency work.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to embrace change and new technologies.
  • Perform routine servicing and repairs on HGV lorries to ensure optimal functionality.
  • First Mindset: Prioritizes customer needs and ensures their concerns are addressed with empathy and care.

Desirable:

    • Vehicle electrical and air systems
    • HSE qualification.
    • Fault finding via software application
