Location: Chelson Meadow - Commercial Waste, Plymouth, PL9
Pay Rate: £15.56 per hour | £19.45 per hour for overtime and Sundays
Assignment Length: Temporary (8 weeks) 

Starting 26.10.2026 and expected to run until 20.12.2026
Hours: 37 hours per week
Shift Pattern:

Monday to Thursday: 06:00am - 14:30pm
Friday: 06:00am - 11:00am

Are you an experienced HGV Driver looking for a hands-on role where you can make a real difference to the local community?

Pertemps are recruiting on behalf of Plymouth City Council for an HGV Driver to support commercial waste collections and bulky waste services across Plymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated environmental services team committed to keeping the city clean, safe and sustainable.

The role involves driving a range of vehicles from 7.5T to 26T and requires a physically fit individual who is comfortable assisting with the loading and unloading of bulky waste items when required.

Key Responsibilities

Safely operate a range of waste collection vehicles, including 7.5T and 26T vehicles.
Complete commercial waste and bulky waste collections throughout Plymouth.
Load, transport and dispose of waste materials in line with environmental legislation and company procedures.
Carry out daily vehicle inspections and promptly report any defects.
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with driving regulations.
Adhere to Driver CPC requirements, Working Time Directive regulations and Operator Licence standards.
Deliver excellent customer service when interacting with businesses and members of the public.
Support Plymouth City Council's environmental and sustainability objectives.What We're Looking For
To be considered for this role, you must have:

A valid HGV/LGV driving licence relevant to the vehicle category operated
A current Driver CPC qualification & valid Digital Tachograph Card
No more than 6 penalty points on your licence
A good understanding of driving regulations and working time rules
A strong commitment to health and safety standards
Excellent communication and customer service skills
A reliable and flexible approach to work
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
A willingness to work in a physically demanding environmentWhat's on Offer?
