Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Upper KS2

About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our welcoming and inclusive Primary SEN provision from September 2025. The successful candidate will work predominantly with Upper Key Stage 2 learners, many of whom present with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN) including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profiles.
This role is ideal for an HLTA who thrives in a nurturing, trauma-informed environment and understands the importance of flexible, pupil-led approaches to learning.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver and adapt learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo.
Plan and lead small group interventions and occasional whole-class cover where necessary.
Support pupils with complex emotional regulation needs, including those with ASC/SEMH.
Implement de-escalation and therapeutic strategies for learners with demand-avoidant behaviours (PDA).
Support the development of pupils’ independence, confidence, and social skills.
Monitor pupil progress and contribute to assessment and support plans (EHCPs, IBPs).
Liaise with external professionals where required (e.g., SALTs, EPs, CAMHS).
Model and promote positive behaviour and inclusive practice across the school.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
HLTA status or equivalent qualification and experience.
Experience supporting Upper KS2 pupils with SEN, particularly SEMH and ASC.
A practical understanding of PDA-informed approaches or a strong willingness to learn.
Confidence in using relational practice, restorative strategies, and pupil voice.
An ability to build strong, respectful relationships with children and families.
High emotional resilience, creativity, and a solution-focused mindset.
A secure understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols.
