Key Responsibilities:
1. Modelling: The successful candidate will support project leaders in the development of sustainable fisheries management. Responsibilities include the enhancement and updating of an existing model of food web dynamics in the Irish Sea, with a focus on responses to climate change, particularly temperature increase and pH. The role entails searching scientific literature for relevant marine ecology data and conducting appropriate statistical analyses.
2. Data Analysis: The role involves obtaining, processing, and analysing time series data related to environmental drivers of ecosystem dynamics, specifically temperature and pH. The post holder will integrate these data into the existing food web model.
3. Report and Paper Writing: The job holder will prepare reports stemming from the project, publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and present them in scientific meetings and technical committees within Ireland, the UK, and the EU. Effective representation is expected to enhance both the individual's and the Institute’s reputation.
4. Support: Provide support to other research projects addressing current fisheries management issues impacting Northern Ireland.

Specific Experience / Qualifications:
Applicants must have:
A degree in biological or environmental sciences, mathematical, or statistics subject (at least 2:2) or equivalent.
At least 1 year’s research experience, gained within the past 5 years, on some aspect of animal ecology science, including data analysis and modelling. This research period includes any time spent gaining a post-graduate qualification involving ecology research work.
At least 1 year's experience of coding in the R programming language.
