We are seeking a dedicated Highways Communication Officer for a contract position. This role focuses on developing and delivering effective communication strategies within the highways sector, particularly for resurfacing programmes. You will coordinate closely with the Planned Maintenance team and various stakeholders to ensure clear and accurate dissemination of information.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver communication plans for resurfacing programmes Coordinate with the Planned Maintenance team Gather accurate, up-to-date information on programmes, phasing and sequencing of works, material selection, risks, and delays Engage with key stakeholders including local councillors, MPs, emergency services, businesses, and public transport operators Provide advance briefings and attend meetings with the highways delivery team Write clear, accessible content for council website updates, social media posts, press releases, and resident letters Act as a communication link between the public and the highways team, responding to social media messages and phone enquiries
Preferred Experience:
Background in highways-related communications Experience managing public "drop-in" events and community engagement sessions Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle Willingness to visit various sites and deliver information leaflets
