Highways Engineer - North London - £28.50 per hour Umbrella
A North London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Highways Engineer to join its Planned Maintenance Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highways professional with proven experience in delivering highway maintenance and footway renewal projects within a busy urban environment. Working as part of a dedicated highways team, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of planned highway maintenance schemes from inception through to completion. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, project management capability, financial control, and contract administration skills to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and deliver highway maintenance projects from initial survey and design through to construction and completion. Undertake highway inspections, condition surveys, and site assessments. Design and deliver multiple footway renewal schemes simultaneously. Prepare technical drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and project documentation. Manage project budgets and ensure effective financial control across individual schemes. Supervise contractors on site and monitor the quality of works delivered. Administer contracts and ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications, and health and safety requirements. Liaise with internal departments, contractors, stakeholders, and members of the public throughout project delivery. Provide technical advice and recommendations relating to highway maintenance and improvement works. Requirements
HNC, BSc, BEng in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience. Proven experience delivering highway maintenance and footway renewal projects. Strong understanding of highway engineering principles, project management, contract management, and site supervision. Experience managing budgets and controlling project expenditure. Ability to work effectively across multiple schemes simultaneously. Knowledge of relevant highways legislation, standards, and industry best practice.
