Summary
The primary objective of this role is to conduct highway safety inspections, identify and manage defects, oversee repairs and maintenance, and ensure the highway network remains safe for all users. The position involves inspecting highways, addressing customer inquiries, supervising contractors and statutory undertakers, and ensuring that all work complies with relevant legislation, specifications, safety standards, and council policies. This role is crucial in maintaining public safety, safeguarding the council's assets, and providing exceptional service to residents.
Responsibilities
Perform routine and scheduled safety inspections of highways, footways, and related assets.
Identify defects and evaluate risks in accordance with highway maintenance policies and applicable laws.
Accurately document inspection results using inspection systems and related technology.
Conduct pre- and post-highway licence inspections.
Execute surveys, measurements, and condition assessments as needed.
Maintain precise records to support maintenance programs and ensure legal compliance.
Determine repair needs and issue work orders within authorized limits.
Oversee and supervise minor repair works and maintenance activities.
Inspect completed works to verify adherence to specifications, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.
Assist in overseeing maintenance programs and engineering projects.
Support the implementation of minor highway improvement schemes and maintenance contracts.
Prepare estimates, measurements, and costing information as required.
Requirements
Experience in conducting inspections, surveys, or maintenance activities within highways, highway maintenance, civil engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience in monitoring contractor performance and quality standards.
Experience in handling public inquiries, customer service, and complaint resolution.
Proficiency in producing inspection reports and maintaining accurate records.
Essential Qualifications
GCSE level education (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
Relevant qualification in Highway Maintenance, Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Possession of a full UK Driving Licence.

Working hours: 35 hours per week
