Job Description - HLTA/Unqualified Teacher - Bedford

Hi,

I hope you're well.

I'm reaching out with an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated individual to join a specialist SEN setting in Bedford.

We are currently recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - though this role would equally suit an unqualified teacher with relevant experience. Please note, the HLTA qualification is not essential; what matters most is a commitment to supporting young people who do not thrive within traditional education models.

Key Details:

  • Position: HLTA (or unqualified teacher)

  • Location: Bedford

  • Setting: Specialist SEN provision for students aged 11-18 (predominantly SEMH profiles)

  • Contract: Permanent

  • Salary: £20,000 - £24,000 per annum

  • Start Date: Immediate

About the Role:

The Bedford site supports up to 25 students of all genders, providing education by stage, not age, ensuring gaps in learning and attainment are addressed before progression. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a nurturing, therapeutic, and forward-thinking environment where every child's individuality is recognised and supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the teaching and learning of students with SEMH and additional needs

  • Deliver targeted interventions and small group sessions

  • Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated multi-disciplinary team

  • Contribute to a flexible, child-centred, and creative curriculum offer

Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification is desirable but not essential

  • Experience supporting young people in an educational, care, or mentoring capacity

  • A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students with complex needs

Benefits:

  • Permanent, secure employment in a specialist education setting

  • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities

  • Supportive, close-knit team with a therapeutic approach to education

  • Opportunities for career progression with

Many thanks,

Matthew Flynn - Dunbar Education
