We are recruiting for experienced Homelessness Prevention Officers to support individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will work within a busy Housing Options team, providing advice, support and practical interventions to help customers secure and sustain suitable accommodation.
This is a rewarding frontline role where you will manage your own caseload, carry out assessments, develop personal housing plans and work closely with landlords, support agencies and partner organisations to achieve positive housing outcomes.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Interview customers presenting as homeless or in housing need. Provide advice on homelessness prevention, housing options and available support services. Assess housing needs and develop personalised housing plans. Manage a caseload of clients and deliver effective homelessness prevention interventions. Negotiate with landlords, family members and partner agencies to prevent homelessness. Complete homelessness-related documentation, including plans and decision letters. Carry out home visits and attend meetings at various locations across the borough. Support customers to complete housing, benefit and support applications. Build strong relationships with housing providers, support services and community organisations. Attend case conferences and multi-agency meetings. Maintain accurate case records and ensure information is recorded correctly. Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a high-quality Housing Options service.Skills & Experience Required
Experience working with individuals or families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Knowledge of homelessness prevention and housing options services. Experience supporting vulnerable people. Ability to manage a varied caseload and competing priorities. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Experience working with partner agencies and within a multi-agency environment. Good negotiation and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Competent using Microsoft Office and case management systems. Knowledge of the benefits system is desirable.Essential Requirements
GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent experience). Full UK driving licence. Access to a vehicle for work purposes. Willingness to undertake home visits and occasional evening/weekend work.
